Carrier lifetime in InAs / GaSb superlattice structures

The time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) data are studied for strained-layer InAs / GaSb superlattice structures at different excitation powers. Photoluminescence and absorption spectra are obtained. The minority carrier lifetime is obtained from PL frequency response to sin-wave modulated excitation. Similar results follow from analysis of the time-resolved PL data. It has been concluded that the minority carrier lifetime is limited by Shockley-Read-Hall recombination.

Parametrization of chirality and optical activity of nanocomposites

Тhe scalar parameters to assess the chirality of aggregates of dielectric particles have been introduced. The chiral aggregates were classified into three parts by characters of symmetry and zero-value of parameters. To analyze the relationship between chirality and optical activity the harmonic deformation units were considered bringing out effects of interest. The parametrization proposed can be used to describe the interaction between the stereoselectivity of chiral particles.

The band structure of solid solutions of copper and silver chalcogenides

The band structure of solid solutions of copper and silver chalcogenides has been investigated theoretically using the Quantum Espresso software package. That structure was calculated for the high-temperature cubic phase. For all compounds the band structure was established to be of the same kind.

Pinning and possible distances between linear vortex in 3D ordered Josephson medium

A system of difference equations and а method of calculating the configuration of two linear vortices interacting in a three-dimensional ordered Josephson medium are proposed. Current configurations are calculated as well as the critical values of the pinning parameter at which vortex can no longer be located at a predetermined distance from each other. The influence of the parameter b, which takes into account the inhomogeneity of the magnetic field is investigated.

Macrocrack interaction with arched microcracks under antiplane shear

The paper focuses on the semi-infinite III-mode crack interaction with a structure of arched cracks that arranged in the arc centered at the main crack vertex. Through the use of a generalized integral Mellin transform the problem has been reduced to a singular integral equation with a closed-form exact solution. The relationship between the stress intensity factor and the microstructure parameters has been studied.

An influence of interparticle potential parameters on optical properties of metallic clusters is discussed in the article. Dependences of the static dipole polarisability and the plasmon resonance frequency of alkali metal clusters upon the screening parameter and the effective dielectric constant are studied.

Extreme resolution of the laser pumped alkaline vapor self-oscillating magnetometers

The results of analytic study of optical pumped spin generator with alkaline vapors in saturation mode are presented. According to analysis of stochastic equations for amplitude and frequency fluctuations we have obtained equations for natural and technical line width which determine resolution of spin generator. Resulting dependences are compared with the same ones for spin generator where the mechanism of amplitude limiting is based on nonlinearity of the amplifier feedback.

Sensitivity analysis of an optical holographic interferometer based on reflective dynamic gratings

Improvement and stabilization of optical characteristics of the porous silicon

The procedure for stabilization of optical characteristics of porous silicon made by electrochemical anodic oxidation has been presented. The photoluminescence spectra and Raman scattering of porous silicon films were analyzed. The best optical performance was found to achieve by making samples in electrolyte containing an aqueous solution of KMnO4 and without illumination of a silicon wafer.

Using atomic-force microscopy techniques for an analysis of ferroelectric and magnetic properties of bismuth-doped terbium manganite at low temperatures

Magnetic and ferroelectric properties of the doped single crystal Tb0.95Bi0.05MnO3 have been investigated using magnetic force microscopy and piezoresponse force microscopy in the temperature range of 4 – 30 K. Local magnetic and ferroelectric ordering in the Tb0.95Bi0.05MnO3 crystal was observed at low temperatures. An absence of correlation in distribution of ferromagnetic clusters and polar nanodomain areas was found in the temperature range of 4 – 30 K.

Magnetostriction and magnetization of ferriferous glasses

The field dependencies of transverse, longitudinal and volume magnetostrictions for ferriferous alkali boron silicate glasses with KNO3 ferroelectric embedded into the pores have been determined. The magnetization dependence on applied magnetic field for initial nonporous ferriferous glasses was obtained and the coercive force was determined.

Structural stability of the villin domain 6 in the absence of calcium ions

Using methods of solution heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy we investigate the structural stability of domain 6 of actin-binding protein Villin (V6) in the absence of calcium ions. We have demonstrated calcium-free V6 to have a stable tertiary structure that was markedly different from the previously reported solution structure of the calcium-bound domain.

Supramolecular structures formed by TIP49A protein in vitro

Tip49a, a human protein isolated with several chromatin-remodulating complexes, is readily oligomerized in vitro forming polydisperse aggregates of the size of tens and hundreds of nanometers. In this work we show that the non-specific aggregation of the protein can be effectively countered by 0.05–0.10 % concentrations of a detergent Triton-X100. We also show that addition of the detergent destroys aggregates formed already that allows us to isolate oligomeric forms of the protein which may have biological significance. When combined, the results of small angle X-ray scattering and dynamic light scattering experiments suggest that TIP49A aggregation observed in vitro is reversible with the protein oligomerization in two different types of stable filamentous structures.

The article is devoted to study of bifurcations of stationary modes of convection in a closed, tilted cylindrical cavity at harmonic temperature distribution on boundary. Using finite difference method the bifurcation diagrams and curves for three values of Prandtl number corresponded to air, water and transformer oil were obtained.

On the Chandler wobble

In this paper we have proved that the assertion on the existence of residual motion of the Earth rotation axis within the Earth is a result of erroneous interpretation of the zenith distance (angle) measurements with instruments using as a reference the plumb-in line or artificial horizon. The functional relationship between the plumb-in line deviation and the Moon’s perigee position has been established for an arbitrary point on the rotating the Earth surface. This relationship manifests itself as variations in the gravitational acceleration vector direction and magnitude at the observation point or, in other words, as periodical deviations of the plumb-in line (local vertical). The results of our work show that it is necessary to revise some postulates of metrology, gravimetry, astronomy, geophysics and satellite navigation.

The introductory part reviews works on composite materials as a new direction of nanotechnology development.
